We didn't bomb it flat because de Gaulle and his chums were on our side, the locals would probably have got the hump and Paris wasn't of fundamental industrial importance to the German war machine. Perhaps more surprising is that the Germans didn't raze it to the ground when they left - see our Paris section for a brief discussion thereof.

Your search optimisation efforts reflect the engines' weakness when they look for form and can't distinguish substance - although those nice people at Yahoo! seem to have prioritised correctly!

Highlights:

Argentina - let them join the Six Nations' if SA/NZ/AUS won't play with them. The performance of the 'minor' nations - Georgia gave the Irish a real scare, Fiji were magnificent, gave the 'boks a scare playing sevens rugby and put the Welsh out, Tonga and Samoa did well. Wales v Fiji.

Going to see England dispose of Australia, followed that evening by watching the French put the All Blacks out in a bar in Avignon. Sir Clive was in the same bar giving it 'Allez les Bleus' with the rest of us. The arrogance of the Aussies and Kiwis (both officials and fans) getting returned with interest - imagine spending all that money only to see your side go out in the quarter-finals.

The response of the French in the bars of Montmartre after England beat them: "Well done, Engleesh - ze better team won. 'Ave a drink with me". In fact, French hospitality throughout.

Disappointments:

Ireland. SA 36-0 England - with the exception of the magnificent Jason Robinson. Argentina in the semi-final - too many mistakes. England's dependence on Wilkinson. That disallowed try.

Lord Price suffering an acid reflux on my sofa.

Steve - I'm so sorry. Stupid of me to think you were in error, and not to have considered the fact that LP might have had a hand in it. At his age, you'd think he would have slowed down a bit and started thinking about something more sensible, like fly fishing or whatever.

Smoked oysters - no, never tried them. I will consult oyster aficianados of my acquaintance for their opinion.

Moscow - not made it yet, despite my love of all things east of Plzen. If I can persuade (that is, bribe) Mrs P the Trans-Siberian is on the agenda.

Ladies and escorts - that's the danger of having Lord Price edit my copy. I've consulted my original and find I stopped at 'themselves'. I'm sure it reads as His Grace intended.
